Welcome aboard the Good Times III. We are docked at the mouth of the Salmon River at the Lighthouse Marina in Port Ontario NY, just outside Pulaski. Beginning May 1st we start fishing the shoreline for Brown trout. Browns average 4 to 7 lbs. and occasionally into the teens. What a great battle on light tackle with 10 lb. line! In June and July we follow the Browns to deeper water and start targeting Steelhead at the same time. Steelhead average 5 to 10 lbs. with some much bigger. Steelhead are exciting to catch because they are very acrobatic, doing jumps, twists and back flips. In July we not only catch Browns and Steelhead but start to see Coho Salmon and King Salmon migrating into the eastern basin of the lake. This time of year the Salmon start staging at the mouth of the Salmon River to prepare for their run up the river to spawn in mid to late September. Cohos average 7 to 13 lbs. but the King Salmon is the grand-daddy of them all, averaging 15 to 25 lbs. with some going into the high 20's and even 30+ lbs. There is nothing like holding onto a fishing pole with the line screaming off the reel as these monsters take off. Just as you think you are gaining some ground he runs again and maybe 20 minutes later you will have him in the boat, tired and grinning ear to ear (you, not the fish). What an awesome experience!!!
